CovEd Labs

Supplementing STEM education in middle and high schools throughout the United States.

Introducing CovEd Academic Labs

In CovEd Labs, college-aged instructors trained by CovEd leadership lead weekly math and science sessions to supplement existing STEM education. The topics covered by each lab session will change week-by-week to expose attendees to a variety of math and science concepts covered in a high-school classroom setting. The Labs will include both lecture-styled presentations and interactive elements to engage students in the learning process.

This program is intended for middle and high school students who need additional math and science support to supplement what has been taught in the classrooms. That said, younger students interested in higher-level STEM topics may also attend.

CovEd Labs offer an enriching opportunity for you or your student to enhance classroom performance and delve deeper into science and math. We hope to see you there!

Past Programs

  • SIMBA/ASET

SIMBA/ASET is an organization that serves homeless youth in New York. For them, we designed and implemented Biology and Algebra 1 CovEd Labs to help high school students who “disappeared” from the school roster during the pandemic to catch up academically. Parts of these CovEd Labs had tips and advice to help these students pass the NY Regents exams so that they can graduate from high school.

  • Coding Workshops

In Summer 2023, we offered beginner and immediate-level summer coding workshops for our partners at Bridges To Science, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to underserved youth living in rural Texas with limited access to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum; Latino Advancement Education Fund (LEAF); and Chief Leschi School, a K-12 school associated with the Bureau of Indian Education.

  • Duval Charter Scholars Academy

Duval Charter Scholars Academy is a Title I academy with both elementary (K-5) and middle (6-8) grades, whose students are from areas with high concentrations of poverty. From September to December of 2023, CovEd hosted weekly Science Labs fostering excitement in students for learning new topics such as organelles, solar systems, and earth science.
